Student Academic Article Competition
in Digital Law

We invite bachelor's and master's students to take part in a joint academic article competition in digital law. The best works will be published on the organizers' platforms, and the authors of the three prize-winning entries will receive a cash award.

Topic of the Competition

The general theme is digital law. Each participant independently formulates a specific topic for their work. As a guide, we suggest the following areas (the list is not exhaustive):
  • protection of personal data and the right to privacy in the digital environment
  • legal regulation of artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision-making;
  • cybersecurity, cybercrime, and liability for digital offenses;
  • e-commerce, digital contracts, and smart contracts;
  • the legal regime of digital assets, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain technology;
  • regulation of online platforms and the platform economy;
  • intellectual property in the digital environment;
  • content regulation and the liability of internet intermediaries;
  • e-justice, LegalTech, and the digitalization of public services;
  • cross-border data transfers and digital sovereignty;
  • digital human rights and freedom of expression online.

Who Can Participate

The competition is open to bachelor’s and master’s students of Azerbaijani educational institutions. Individual works are accepted: one work, one author.

Languages of Submission

Works are accepted in Azerbaijani or English.

Formatting Requirements

  • length: 4,000 to 6,000 words (excluding the bibliography)
  • font: Times New Roman
  • line spacing: single
  • footnotes and the bibliography must follow the OSCOLA standard (Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities)

Mandatory participant details

At the start of the work, the following must be stated:
  • the author's full name
  • the name of the university
  • the year of study
  • the title of the work

Evaluation criteria

The organizers assess works according to the following criteria:
  • novelty of the topic and the author's own approach;
  • relevance of the subject matter
  • quality of presentation (compliance with the requirements, including OSCOLA)
  • use of current academic literature

Additional place
Prakkom will separately select one participant to be offered a paid internship.
Winning works will be published on the Techlaw platform and on the Digital Law Lab resource (on both platforms).

Publication of Works and Announcement of Results

Works received before 1 September may be published by the organizers on their resources on a rolling basis as they arrive, with the best of the submitted entries selected at the organizers' discretion. The fact that a work is published before the results are announced does not mean it has been awarded any prize place and does not predetermine the organizers' decision.
The prize places and winners are announced on 10 September
The results are determined by the organizers according to the criteria set out above.

Consent to Data Processing and Publication

By submitting a work to the competition, the participant:
  • consents to the processing of their personal data by the organizers for the purposes of running the competition
  • grants the organizers permission to publish their work (an item of intellectual property) on the organizers' resources, with mandatory attribution of the author
